You can access Fraser Island by vehicular barge from either Inskip Pt near the Rainbow Beach township or River Heads just south of Hervey Bay.
Access from Rainbow Beach
Take the Manta Ray Barge from the beach at Inskip Point—approximately 15km from Rainbow Beach—across to Hook Point on Fraser Island. Manta Ray Barges operate daily from 6.00 am – 5.30 pm and take only approx 10 mins to cross to Fraser Island. No bookings required and walk-on passengers welcome with only a minimal fee, payment just at the time of travel is fine.

The Rainbow Beach Taxi Service is available to walkers from Rainbow Beach and Cooloola to the barge at Inskip Point—phone 0411 072 349. There is also Secure parking in Rainbow Beach, at either Rainbow Sands Resort or contact Cooloola Coast Realty for lock up security parking.

Access from Hervey Bay
Barges travel between River Heads (just south of Hervey Bay) and Fraser Island, taking visitors to two destinations—Wanggoolba Creek landing area and Kingfisher Bay Resort. These barges run daily and are at designated times only and welcome walk-ons which incur a fee, bookings essential. The River Heads to Wanggoolba Creek travel time is approx 30 mins and to Kingfisher Bay is 45 mins.

Limited parking is available on the roadside or at the ferry departure point at River Heads. For guests staying at Kingfisher Bay Resort, you can book secure parking and the resort will shuttle you to the ferry departure point or there is a private Undercover Lock-Up Secure Parking facility, contact River Heads Property Sales
